Though Miles Apart is an interactive installation that encourages people to join together through a soft tangible interface. Based on a traditional Chinese melody, Shuidiao Getou, the installation embodies the idea of separation but, though apart, “we are still able to share the beauty of the moon together”. Initially, as people enter the area they are considered ‘separate’ until they sit around the piece. Their presence triggers a variety of visualizations – all of which can only come to fruition when the audience comes together and grasps a cotton ball in their hands, as though using their energy to give light to the project. It creates a meditative immersive environment, where the collective conscious is key in driving the piece.
